Tick2Trade Portfolio: How to Track Holdings, P&L, and Performance in One Place
Many traders know exactly what they bought but have no clear picture of how their overall portfolio is doing. Positions are spread across intraday trades, F&O and long-term holdings, and the real performance gets lost. Tick2Trade's Portfolio view brings your holdings and P&L together in the same terminal you use for charts and trading, so you always know where you stand.
Positions vs holdings: know the difference
- Positions are open trades for the day or open F&O contracts. They are tracked in the Trade panel with live P&L.
- Holdings are shares delivered to your demat account that you carry for days, months or years. These belong in your Portfolio.
Keeping both in view helps you avoid a common trap: a good trading day hiding a slowly declining long-term portfolio, or the other way round.
What to track in your portfolio
- Invested value and current value – the starting point for every performance question.
- Overall P&L – total profit or loss across all holdings.
- Day's P&L – how today's market move has affected you.
- Per-stock P&L – which holdings are helping and which are dragging.
- Allocation – how much of your capital sits in each stock or sector.
A monthly portfolio review in five steps
- Check concentration. If one stock or sector is more than 20–25% of your portfolio, decide whether that is intentional.
- Review the laggards. For each losing position, ask whether the original reason for buying still holds.
- Review the winners. Decide whether to hold, trail a stop or book partial profits.
- Open the charts. Use Tick2Trade charts to check trend and key levels for each holding.
- Set alerts. Add alerts at important support levels so a breakdown never goes unnoticed.
Use the rest of the terminal with your portfolio
- Watchlist: keep a "Holdings" watchlist to monitor your stocks during the session.
- News: follow news on the companies you own, especially around results.
- Overview: see how the index and its heavyweights are moving relative to your holdings.
Common portfolio mistakes
- Averaging down on losing stocks without a reason.
- Selling winners too early and holding losers too long.
- Mixing short-term trades into long-term holdings when a trade goes wrong.
- Never measuring performance against a benchmark like NIFTY 50.
